My Treatment Philosophy

When we first meet, my goal is to slow things down and create space to think together about what has been troubling you. Feeling understood without judgment can make it easier to reflect on our thoughts, emotions, and patterns with greater clarity.

I approach care with curiosity and respect for each person’s unique experience. No two people struggle in exactly the same way, so our work begins by understanding how you make sense of what you are going through.

From there, we work collaboratively to help you feel more grounded and clear again. Treatment combines expert medication management with psychotherapy allowing care to address immediate symptoms and deeper patterns that affect emotional wellbeing.

My approach is informed by more than three decades of psychiatric practice and over forty years of nursing and medical experience. The goal is simple. I provide experienced, attentive psychiatric care in a setting where patients feel understood, supported and confident in their treatment. That background shapes the careful, thoughtful way I listen and support patients.

My areas of speciality include:

  • Mood Disorders

  • Depression

  • Bipolar Disorder

  • Anxiety Disorders

  • Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

  • Compassion Fatigue

  • Chronic Medical Illness resilience

  • Chronic Pain resilience

  • Life Transitions

  • Chronic Grief Reactions

Psychotherapy

I work collaboratively with you to decide what style of therapy is most suited to you. Primarily my therapeutic approach is insight oriented and psychodynamic. I also focus on attachment theory, trauma informed care, and supportive therapy. Psychodynamic therapy focuses on the impact that past experiences and early formative patterns impact current thoughts, feelings, and behavior. In a supportive and confidential setting, we explore recurring patterns in your life, unconscious processes, and the meaning behind symptoms. With insight, you can develop deeper self-awareness and the ability to create lasting change. This approach to therapy enhances long-term emotional healing and growth, more fulfilling relationships, and a stronger sense of self.

Medication Management

After a thorough initial evaluation we will work collaboratively to ensure clarity about the symptoms we are treating. I offer medication recommendations based on evidence based practice. Whether we are starting a new medication or evaluating your current regimen, I am actively involved in your treatment and maintain close contact throughout the process so that you feel supported. Together we will find the right treatment for you.

Psychoanalysis

For some patients, a deeper approach to self understanding is desired. Psychoanalysis is an intensive therapy that explores primarily how unconscious patterns from early relationships determine current ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving. We explore recurring themes in your life that are often rooted in early relationships and experiences. The relationship between analyst and patient is profound, and common patterns are often played out in therapy unconsciously. Together we can reflect on the meaning of these patterns and how they impact your current functioning. Psychoanalysis allows self awareness, and transformative change at a core level. This is an intensive process and undertaken thoughtfully.

Clinical Consultation

For over 20 years, I have supervised students and clinicians both individually and in groups. I find this collaborative work to be so enlivening and thought provoking. Clinicians share their work in a confidential, reflective, and supportive manner. I enjoy seeing the increase in confidence and self awareness as therapists think through complex cases together. Confidentiality is essential to this work. Supervision is also a space to feel supported with the emotional impact of clinical work.
